Health, Safety & Environment

RJ Civils take health and safety very seriously.

Our operatives are experienced, trained and we believe most importantly, competent in all tasks performed.

Some categories include:

  • SMSTS
  • First aid at work
  • SVQ occupational work supervision
  • CPCS Excavator over 10t (blue card)
  • CPCS dumper (blue card)
  • CPCS lifting operations
  • Confined space
  • SQA location and avoidance of underground apparatus
  • SQA excavation in road/highway
  • SQA signing lighting and guarding
  • SQA reinstatement and compaction of backfill materials.

In addition to tool box talks, We perform a recorded daily briefing evaluating the tasks ahead and discuss previous days tasks:

  • health and safety
  • the Environment
  • sequence of works
  • conflicting works
  • correct plant/equipment needed.

This helps us identify hazards and control the risks in a reasonably practical way.

We are a great believer that PPE should be regarded as the last resort to protect against risks to health and safely. Engineering controls and safe systems of work should be considered first.

We use  job/site specific RAMS.

Our policy statement of intent includes:

  • prevent accidents and cases of work related ill health
  • provide, maintain and correctly store ppe
  • encourage input from all operatives, and act upon risks identified
  • provide clear instructions, information and training
  • provide and maintain safe plant and equipment
  • maintain safe and healthy working conditions
  • implement emergency procedures
  • ensure safe handing and use of substances
  • review and revise regularly

RJ Civils are committed to minimising the impact of its activities on the Environment.

The Key points of its strategy to achieve this are:

  • meet or exceed all the environmental legislation that relates to the company
  • emergency procedures in place
  • raising awareness and training operatives on environmental
  • safe storage of fuel and other substances
  • minimise waste by evaluating operations and ensuring they are as efficient as possible
  • minimise toxic emissions through the selection and use of its fleet and plant
  • provide ample spill kits
  • actively promote recycling
